Digital Archives

I am in the process of bringing our archives into the Twenty-First century.

By no means a "technical wizard", I have learned to scan and add items to a flash drive.

For those who do not know this term, a flash drive is a portable filing cabinet which can store printed and photographed material.

Today's teachers carry their lessons and marks on one around their necks.

I won't be doing that with our archives!

In any case, now we do not have too many boxes to store and our items can be passed easily from one historian to the next.

I have also backed up the data on CDs, so, hopefully, all will not be lost as time goes by.

Original Materials

We still do keep some original material, which is inventoried and stored safely.

Perhaps when an anniversary or other special event occurs, we can have a look at some of the items.

At present, we can easily and quickly access the following items: constitutions, executive members over the years, meeting and budget reports, membership numbers, committee activities, Peelings and events special to RTO, both in our district and in the province.

Photos

I am also scanning in photographs from the albums we have.

I will bring these for display at our spring general meeting, in both forms.

If you have photos of RTO activities from the past, I'd love to add them to our collection.

If you would like to donate, or lend, some of your own memories, please contact me by e-mail or at (416) 251-2719.
